Between myth and the longing for home
The legend of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon tells the story of a woman longing for her homeland, a place she could never truly return to. Like her, migrants carry home within them — not in grand structures, but in small gestures: a familiar scent, a cherished fabric, a taste that lingers.
Between myth and reality, the gardens remain uncertain, much like the concept of "home" after migration. It shifts, adapts, and takes root in new soil, never quite the same.
This work reflects that journey — the act of carrying, rebuilding, and longing for something both real and imagined.
MFA Thesis Exhibition, UMBC — supported by the Dresher Center for the Humanities. Recipient of the Kathy O'Dell IMDA Award for Outstanding MFA Thesis.
